New Margaritaville Water Park: A Local Paradise in the Making (2026)

A brand new water park is on the verge of opening in Marion County, aiming to fill the gap left by the closure of Wild Waters back in 2016. The developers are seeking approval to construct a thrilling 145-foot slide and to offer day passes to the general public, making it accessible to all.

This exciting water park is part of the larger Camp Margaritaville Resort Orange Lake, a luxurious outdoor retreat that is currently being built on an expansive 150 acres at 18365 NW 45th Avenue Road in Citra.

Originally, this resort was designed as a private facility meant solely for guests with RVs, featuring 430 RV sites and 60 cozy cottages. However, the developer, 8M Holdings, LLC, has recently submitted a request to amend the existing planned unit development (PUD) agreement. This amendment would allow the water park and its various amenities to be open to the public, thus welcoming local residents and visitors who do not stay overnight.

If granted approval, this modification would pave the way for the sale of day passes, providing an opportunity for more people to enjoy the park’s attractions.

Additionally, the proposal includes a request to raise the maximum height limit for the water park's slide complex. The developers are asking for an allowance of 145 feet for the four-slide tower, a considerable increase from the typical height restriction of 40 feet for other structures on the premises.

Nestled along the picturesque shores of Orange Lake, conveniently located just off Interstate 75 in Central Florida’s celebrated horse country, the resort promises to be a fantastic destination. Besides the water park, it will also feature a resort-style pool, a relaxing lazy river, a bar and restaurant, live entertainment events, and even a charming dog park named "Barkaritaville."

County staff reports indicate that the developer aims to prioritize public access to the Margaritaville amenities during the off-peak season when RV occupancy tends to be lower. This strategy would help ensure that the facilities are utilized throughout the year, maintaining their vibrancy.

Construction of the resort is actively underway, with an expected opening date set for early 2026, according to available county records.

On January 26, the Marion County Planning & Zoning Commission evaluated the developer's request. Although the video recording of that meeting was not accessible, the final decision regarding this proposal will ultimately rest with the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, who are scheduled to vote on the matter next month.

Since the permanent closure of Wild Waters in Silver Springs State Park in September 2016, the residents of Marion County have expressed a strong desire for a local water park. Ocala-News.com has received multiple letters to the editor since 2021 advocating for the return of a water park in the area, illustrating the community's enthusiasm for such a project.
