John Densmore and Robby Krieger, the surviving members of the legendary Doors, have joined forces with Playing for Change, a remarkable project uniting musicians from every corner of the globe. Their recent rendition of the Doors' haunting classic, "Riders on the Storm," is a powerful example of music's ability to transcend boundaries.
This isn't just any cover; it's a vibrant tapestry woven with diverse musical threads. Joining Densmore and Krieger are Lukas and Micah Nelson (sons of the legendary Willie Nelson), Don Was, Rami Jaffee from the Foo Fighters, the Lakota Drum Group, and many other talented artists.
Densmore himself expressed his satisfaction, stating that "Lukas Nelson filled Jim Morrison's leather pants quite well!" He also praised Rami Jaffee's piano work, noting that Ray Manzarek would be proud. The video, masterminded by Mark Johnson, is a beautiful visual representation of this global collaboration.
Krieger added, "Seeing musicians from different cultures come together around this song means a lot. Playing for Change is doing important work to unite people across the globe."

Over the years, many rock legends have participated, including Bono, Keith Richards, the Doobie Brothers, Jackson Browne, Tom Morello, David Crosby, and Robbie Robertson, among others.
Co-founder Mark Johnson explained that the project's origins were in the idea of traveling the world, recording musicians, and connecting them through music. The project aims to demonstrate the unifying power of music across different cultures.
